SSD Drives

Typical hard drives that have been around for years which are commonly used in cheaper hosting environments use actuating and spinning components to read from and write to storage. Even with these disks moving at up to 15,000 rotations per minute in enterprise environments, the continuous physical movement day-in and day-out will always result in gradual degradation of the drive components leading to poor performance and a much higher chance of failure over time. With the recent introduction of Solid State Drives (SSDs), all the moving components have been removed and replaced with a solid block of storage. While more costly, these drives will perform at many orders of magnitude faster than the dated spinning drives you are used to. IOPs is a measurement of disk performance, your regular spinning drives will typically run at ~150 IOPs whereas our enterprise grade Solid State Drives will clock out around a blazing 150,000 IOPs.
